Students at School Teenage Programme (Ages 13-18): The BISS summer holiday programme runs at Dorothy Stringer High School from 23 of June to 22 of August 2008, with the emphasis on learning and fun. It is suitable for individual young students on their own, or small groups of friends, as there is usually a good international mix, a friendly atmosphere, and students easily make friends from all over the world. We carefully monitor all students, particularly those who have travelled on their own, to ensure they have settled in well, made friends and are happy.

Dorothy Stringer High School has excellent facilities, and is located near Preston Park, a good safe residential area of Brighton, and a short distance to the city centre shop and the beach (10 minutes by the No 5b bus). The course includes lessons, a full programme of sporting, cultural activities, excursions (including entrance fees) and home stay accommodation.

Evening fun on the pier Dorothy Stringer High School has over 1,000 British students aged 11-16 but their term ends on July 18, in the middle of our summer holiday course. Although the basic programme remains the same throughout the summer, there are two distinctly different types of atmospheres and opportunities available before and after the date.

June 23-July 18: On these dates we will be sharing the facilities with over 1,000 British students. There is a busy vibrant atmosphere and a feeling that you are at a real British school. There are many opportunities to mix and make friends with the English students both socially during break and lunch times (a game of football perhaps) and formally by joining the British lessons for subjects such as language awareness, art, sport and cookery. The English students enjoy this and look forward to welcoming their international visitors into their classroom. We call these INTEGRATED lessons, and the emphasis is on cultural exchange and awareness. Some British students enjoy being ‘buddies’, showing the school and becoming friends with students from other countries. During this period the cafeteria is open and may of our students sit with the British students during lunch time.

July 21–August 22: The British students have left for their summer holidays and the school seems quieter! However, we have a bigger capacity during this period and usually have a bigger international mix. We can have our own places and classrooms, and the ‘big’ school suddenly seems less daunting. It means we will have most of the schools facilities to ourselves – no need to wait for a computer or the tennis courts, and you can have a music room all to yourself! Many students enjoy this more intimate atmosphere, especially in the afternoons when they can try different things and relax with their new friends.

Why not book both? Bookings can be made for any period between June 23 and August 22, with two week being the minimum stay and nine weeks the maximum.
