We believe a relaxed and caring family atmosphere is the best possible environment in which to learn English.
Biss have carefully selected a number of local families who are waiting to welcome our teenage students.
Many families have children of their own, and students will be treated as 'one of the family'. Our families
provide all meals, laundry service (unless by prior arrangement) full care and supervision. Accommodation is mostly in twin rooms, but some
single rooms can be booked. Religious and other dietary requirements can be catered for, in most cases.
Please advise at the time of booking and we will be pleased to discuss this with you.
We try to place students in families that are within walking distance from school. However in the
busy summer months this is not always possible, and some students will need to travel to school by bus. For
a supplement it is possible to guarantee a family that is close to school or book a daily taxi collection
service. Friends can share a room if requested, otherwise we try to ensure that there are no other students of the same nationality
in the family - meaning English is the only language spoken.
We strongly recommend that all students buy a bus pass - Brighton is easy to get around by bus,
and our experience is that all students want bus passes irrespective of their family location. Dorothy Stringer School is located near a No 5b bus stop.
The relationship between the student and host family is very important, and can be a very rewarding experience. No two families are
the same so it is a unique situation. We provide a link between the student and the family, monitor the stay, and try to ensure the student and
the family are happy. We are available every school day for the student to discuss any issues - even if it is just to say how wonderful
everything is for them!
